Early afternoon on Sunday, September 19th, a small island of the Canary Islands, La Palma of Spain had a volcano erupt causing a large-scale evacuation of over 5,000 citizens. Local law enforcement has stationed over 400 firefighters in order to deal with any fires and blazes that could've been caused by the running lava. Furthermore, a local volcanology institute stated that there hasn't been an eruption this large for over 50 years. Multiple houses have been damaged as well as a highway that has been cut off by a wall of lava. The Spanish Prime Minister noted that in the close proximity of the eruption, there is a population of around 80,000 people, as well as a total of 400 tourists staying at local hotels. Though the damages could be amplified, as experts estimate that the eruption last up to three months, leaving many residents without shelter or income. Despite a hefty population of people living near the eruption, there have been no reported deaths or injuries for that matter. Leaving us with some pretty insane-looking pictures of a river of lava flowing down the countryside onto inhabited houses.
Nature can be so wild!
