Haitian immigrants-Jack Cisko
After the president of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, was assassinated on July 7th and recent reports of the Prime Minister was involved in the assassination many Haitians have been fleeing the country in search of a better life. It doesn't help that there was a 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti less then a week ago as well. So they're seeking asylum from the US and Mexico and both countries are trying their hardest to stop them from entering America illegally. Mexico is helping by flying them to southern Mexico and the United States are trying to push them back into Mexico or fly them back to Haiti. However there are still over 9,000 Haitian immigrants camping under a bridge in south Texas. While some of them are going to get granted asylum or citizenship, most are not. However there is much controversy over videos and pictures of the border patrol riding on horseback with whips trying to get them to cooperate. Also obviously the republicans and the democrats are split on this issue because why would they get along. People are arguing because the Haitians have refugee status in Brazil and Chile but instead of going there they are trying to get to the United States. However they are being turned away both peacefully and violently so everyone is split.
