United Nations Computers Hacked by Cyber Criminals by Nick Capeci
The United Nations was recently hacked by cybercriminals. Using stolen credentials, Cyber Criminals were able to hack their way into the UN (United Nations) computers. What exactly did the Criminals do you may ask? Well, the hackers stole a bunch of data that could be used against some international agencies. According to United Nations, the security found the breach to happen on August 5th, 2021. While the security when through the servers, they found that the hackers were still active on August 7th, 2021. United Nations was then told imminently. My question is if you figured out a breach why did you wait two days? Why not just report then and there and catch the hackers rather than waiting and the hackers to steal more important data. Now the United Nations are focused on improving their cyber security.
The founder of Blue Hexagon - a cyber security AI - Saumitra Das spoke out about cyber security and said "Usually, organizations are too focused on the perimeter, and once the attacker is inside, there are little visibility on-premises and in the cloud. Organizations need to focus on both endpoint and network monitoring with a well-defined approach to detection engineering to deal with these types of stealthy attacks.” Going forward with their security, the United Nations is going to need to upgrade all aspects of their cyber security. If not they will continue to get hacked and important information will continue to be leaked.
